Shrimp and Tofu Pad Thai - traditional recipe

- 200 g rice noodles
- 200 g peeled shrimp
- 150 g tofu firme
- 30 ml fish sauce
- 45 ml dark soy sauce
- 15 ml brown sugar
- 30 ml lime juice
- 1 clove of garlic, minced
- 15 ml sesame oil
- 15 ml vegetable oil
- 1 red pepper in strips
- 1 bunch of bean sprouts
- 15 ml chopped peanuts
- 1 beaten egg
- Fresh cilantro to taste
How to prepare it step by step?
Preparation
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and fry until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink, about 2-3 minutes, then remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the sesame oil and the tofu cut into cubes. Fry until golden brown on all sides, about 4-5 minutes.
- Boil the rice noodles according to package instructions and drain. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by mixing the fish sauce, dark soy sauce, brown sugar, and lime juice.
- Add the boiled noodles and red pepper strips to the pan with the tofu. Pour the sauce over the noodles and stir until everything is well coated, about 2 minutes.
- Make a well in the center of the pan and add the beaten egg. Cook until set, about 1 minute, then mix it with the rest of the ingredients.
- Add the shrimp, bean sprouts, and chopped peanuts. Cook for a couple more minutes, until everything is heated through.
- Serve hot, sprinkle with fresh cilantro, and enjoy.
